Hanging Baskets the Plant Farm Way

Hanging Baskets

Customers are continually asking how we can grow such beautiful hanging baskets. It’s really no secret, just a labor of love. We actually started the growing process this last summer for the baskets you’ll see this spring. In the heart of basket season, we carefully monitor each basket to see how it performs in our local climate. Each year we test new combinations to see if they make the grade and can live up to the standard of a Plant Farm Hanging Basket. Both new and old are compared side by side. If they do well they are the chosen ones to be included in the coming lineup.

It is not enough that the baskets look good in May we want to be certain they look great in August and October as well. Each year we add a few new combinations and improve on the old when we can.

This year we have over 80 different basket combinations in production. From the ever popular Parade of Color to Tuscan Sun, we have a basket combination for any location.

How do we keep them growing strong and healthy all season?
Here’s the simple recipe:

One. We begin with using the highest quality plant varieties we can find.

Two. These are planted into baskets that allow for a generous amount of our Plant Farm Preferred Potting Soil “Mary's Special Blend”.

Three. We provide the baskets with a constant supply of food each time they are watered. We feed with Plant Farm Preferred “Summer Liquid Feed” fertilizer blend.

Four. We make sure the baskets are watered correctly which varies with the size of the basket and the average daily temperature.

Five. We give most baskets a light haircut in midsummer to freshen them up.

New this year, we are creating an opportunity for you to make your own beautiful basket; we call it our Hanging Basket Buffet. We will have over 150 varieties of basket “stuffers”; these are 2.5” plants, available from mid April to mid May. Pick your basket, then pick your plants, plant them and leave the dirt and mess with us. The combinations are endless.

Ready to go, or ready to be made, we are ready to help you bring some brilliant color to your home this season.
